heart on my sleeve-y

I've been wearing my hair in braids a lot lately. One of the reasons is because when I trimmed my bangs, I accidentally cut a bit of length off the hair around my face on the left side, and I cut it straight. It doesn't look very good, so I just incorporate that piece into a braid. Also, I am in desperate need of a haircut (I am one of those rare girls who hates getting her hair cut. I used to have a friend who would come over and cut my hair for free, and I enjoyed that. Ah well). For now, braids & buns are doing the job and, I hope, disguising the fact that I need a proper trim.

Last night Geoff and I had oh-so-rare Friday night plans. I wore a dress from H&M that I bought before Christmas and have never worn, and I wore eye makeup, which I rarely do. We went to the art gallery where he works for an opening, and stood around for about ten minutes. Then we left without even cashing in our free beer tickets. We went across the street to another opening, looked at the paintings, and left. Then we went to a bar for a friends' birthday party, stood around for about fifteen minutes, then snuck out. I felt awful about it, mostly because I don't like being the type of person who goes to a party only to leave after a few minutes. I should have had some of that free beer; it might have made me a little less uptight!

I love Caitin's new lamp shades. I've been thinking about them all day. They are so pretty.

Also, I made myself a Muxtape: http://fieldguided.muxtape.com.

  1. i always have so much to comment about on your posts haha

your hair looks really cute that way..and i like your shirt! ..i actually am one of those girls who hates getting her hair cut/colored. and i actually had this very conversation today at work. AND i think someone at work can totally color and maybe cut my hair at her apt for me. i know you understand how exciting this is haha. ..i've just had so many bad cuts and etc and rude people at salons, i'm sick of it...i had a friend who could do it at my place for a while but she is busy teaching now.

sometimes ducking in and out of things with your bf is a fun evening though :)

annnnd then i got to the end of the post and there the light was! thank you so much for your compliments earlier today and for featuring it on your blog! i am truly honored and thrilled! (honestly i have butterflies in my stomach right now hahah)

  2. Aw, you're sweet! Thank you so much for your comments. xo

I think we're kind of weird! I think girls are supposed to love going to the salon. I have one stylist that I love, Laura. She's ultra laid-back, just kind of shrugs when I ask how often I should get my hair trimmed, and is pretty good at the chit-chat (sometimes it can be so awkward!). But a haircut from her costs about $60, and I hate spending that much money on my hair, especially because usually I just get a trim and I feel like it should have been more dramatic or something. I guess I'm kind of a tomboy in that way; I've never had a manicure or a pedicure or a facial or any of that stuff. I always think there are better things to pay for!

I know it's probably not very comforting but if I had the money, I would buy one of your shades. I tried doing something similar myself and it turned out so bad (I tried twice!) so I know first-hand how hard it must have been. The picture I posted on the blog is just the prettiest thing.

  3. For the record I hate getting my hair cut, too. I have long, thick, curly hair that has had so many bad hair cuts, and because my hair is so long it is so expensive! I usually straighten it which doesn't help at all. I feel your pain. But I'm caving and going next week anyways for a trim because I have split ends, boo.
I love your braids, they're so cute.

  4. Erica, you have very cute hair! So you are able to make it work for you, even if it is difficult. I have split ends too, especially underneath. Laura the stylist once said they weren't that bad (I guess she sees much worse) so I've kind of clung to that, telling myself they're not that bad, so I can go a few more months without a trim. I'm glad I'm not alone!

  5. anabela, have we had this hair talk before? i have gotten so forgetful with stuff like that..only to have it hit me hours (or weeks!) later that i think i said something twice to someone. it is awful and i'm scared that i'll become a crazy old lady. i am trying to work on this.

i have never had a facial, pedicure, manicure, etc., either haha. the money thing is hard for me and also i just get intimidated i guess. i'm so girly in some ways but so not in other ways! especially, of course when compared to most girls. sigh. we are weird hahah.

  6. I am in DIRE need of a hurr doo. I dyed it with a wash-in orange colour (think My So Called Life... I'm having a mid-life crisis!) which looked good for exactly 2 days. It now looks like I dyed my hair with a cheap wash-in orange colour! HA! I usually wait, at the very least, 6 months between haircuts. My ex-boyfriend does my hair for free in exchange for juicy gossip and the occasional kitchen gadget. I am usually non-stop-talking-maniac-woman in these situations... which is totally out of character, but he's entertained and I get a free doo, so everyone wins! I just have no idea how I want my hair right now! I lack inspiration.

ps- I have been known to leave my own art shows after 15 minutes or less! Don't feel bad.

  7. Oh my gosh, I love that there is a whole community of girls commenting on my blog about this! YES! I love you all and if I could, I would grant you a lifetime of free, stylish haircuts gently snipped by the loveliest of unicorns xoxo

  8. i love your hair in braid + bun, it looks so nice with your bangs.

i try to have my hair cut only twice a year to avoid the bother. i love my hair stylist, but i always feel like she is a bit annoyed that i keep cutting my bangs after telling her to let them be because 'i'm growing them out.'

as for ducking out of a party early, i always think it's better to do that then to sway about awkwardly after too many glasses of wine, still feeling uncomfortable and somewhat bored!

i will have to try the braids+bun combo tomorrow, it looks like a good solution to my increasingly unruly hair.
