weird summer

Wearing my new Built By Wendy jacket (see below), which is difficult to photograph

Things have been pretty weird in Toronto this summer. It's been cold, and rainy, and we're one month into a city workers' strike; there is garbage everywhere. All this cold and damp is making me feel extra tired. I was yawning in the first picture above.

A lot of really amazing things have happened recently, though. On Friday I had lunch and a quick thrift stop with Laura Jane, who writes for the excellent blog nogoodforme.com! I adore everything LJ writes -- my favourite post of all time was her guide to astrological perfumery. She was just as hilarious and sweet and lovely in person, and look, we agree that you should go see Sonja's window at Magic Pony.

I also picked up this Built By Wendy mini canvas anorak this weekend at Robber. It was heavily discounted and I am looking forward to wearing it in the fall (although really, I could probably get away with wearing it this summer, this weird, weird summer!).

I think my style is starting to change yet again and I'm definitely veering away from ruffles and towards things that are more masculine. Built By Wendy is the perfect brand for achieving that balance, I think -- girly and boyish all at once. I love this jacket. I feel as though I should be wearing it while standing on rocks near breaking waves. Moody. Like this summer.

(Oh and thank you so much for your comments on my last post -- I tried to respond to each of you!)

  2. Oh! Hee hee -- I got it in black, and I'm wearing it in the pictures! It's hard to photograph, though. I'll put a caption on the pictures to make it more clear.

  4. Sommer's been pretty strange around here the last days, too, it's so frustrating!

  5. It has been really strange, but I don't mind it... I hate the heat and sun and people think I'm crazy for it, haha. But I think it's normal considering my pale pale skin and my red hair and freckles. I could definitely do without the garbage though.

  6. Hi Anabela. For some reason, wearing all black in the summer is even more awesome than wearing all black in the winter.

And even though she isn't too fond of Virgos, I love the astro-perfume guide. Hurrah.

  9. hasn't this summer been such a drag? goodness me...

i'd almost go so far to say i'm ready for autumnal goodness to begin... but, not quite yet! i'm hoping august will bring us a proper summer.

that totally stinks about the garbage strike! ack! have you seen the film ratcatcher? hearing of a garbage strike makes me think of that film... it's a bit sad... but really beautiful.

anyway... oddly enough... my style is changing ever so slightly. (i've been wearing nail polish!) i'm looking forward to your new style! built by wendy is so fantastic... i'm constantly looking towards her for inspiration!

    take care lovely anabela!

  10. I am currently in WWII/ 40's dresses, they are a bit masculine, or look almost like some strange holocaust feed sack uniforms. But i think they are lovely.. and flattering

  12. I love Build by Wendy too. Sorry to hear about the strike. Hope the strike will end soon. We had a strike too in NYC a while back but it was the subway, an inconvenience as I would have to walk back home from NYC to Brooklyn and it would have taken an hour and a half. Fortunately, I was able to stay in the city.
    Have a good day!

  18. it's been a super weird summer here in New York, too. And it's almost August — yikes! I'm so glad you got back on the sewing wagon. I can totally relate to feeling like a failure with projects started and left undone. I think you're right on with starting a fresh one — it's the best way to kick back into the creative spirit. Love the blouse!
