a day with the fierce bunnies

Over the course of this magical summer, I became friends with Sonja Ahlers, who I had admired as an artist since the day that I came across her book Fatal Distraction. Today I helped her a bit at her booth at the One of a Kind Show, and had a lot of fun taking pictures of her incredibly photogenic bunnies. I am no photographer, but the bunnies are forgiving. They are made from angora and cashmere sweaters and are meticulously stitched by hand.

(Hey Twilight fans: the bunny in this print is in Bella's room in the New Moon movie)

(This guy was sneaking in a quick nap by the tape dispenser; the OOAK is exhausting)

I picked up a peanut bunny, a t-shirt, and a few of the witchier photographic prints (bunny seance!), and Erica got one of the peepers in a mitten. I was so happy that the prints were for sale after having seen this sneak peek on Carly's blog.

I ended up taking about 100 pictures today, and would have taken more but the battery on my camera died. I was so enchanted with Sonja's attention to every detail. She is one of my heroes. 100%. Her Etsy shop is currently a little empty, but watch out for it over the next little while if you'd like a fierce bunny fix of your own. She's moving to the Yukon for a bit! The Yukon!

If you happen to be attending the OOAK this weekend, be sure to visit Julie Sinden Handmade and Jack & Marjorie (who I couldn't find because I didn't pick up a program, and forgot to say hi to before I left! Here is a post I wrote last year about J&M).

  5. How beautiful are these bunnies! I've been making stuffed animals out of old holey cashmere sweaters, but these are much cuter :-)

I was at the show on Thursday and 7 hours just flew by. It was exhausting. I got lots of yummy condiments, a gummy bear pendant, and other cute things. I love your pics of the little bunnies. They're so precious, and I love their pastel macaron-like colours.
