And so a whole half of my life is undocumented. I don't think my life necessarily has to be documented, but still, it would be nice to have more pictures to look through later. And it would also be nice to have a greater opportunity for the happy accident of a really good picture.
The Frankie Photo Album that I bought recently reinforced that pictures can be beautiful even if they are not taken with the fanciest equipment. I have an okay camera and an okay lens, and I trust my instincts. It's enough for me. So, inspired by Tara-Lynn who is doing the same, I am going to start my own 365 project: one picture a day for a year. I will post the pictures here.
Let me know if you're doing a 365 too. I'd love to follow yours. Erin's blog is amazing inspiration for this kind of thing.
Of course, my first two pictures are of things around my apartment, but I have to start somewhere.
I just started my 365 too! :)

ooh!! I look forward to following this project of yours!
ReplyDeletewell, i think i should do this! rarely do i like pictures of myself which i should get over as well. maybe we should do one of the pictures per week as a self portrait?! too scary? i will think on the idea and let you know.
ReplyDeletehappy new year:)
i think this is a great idea! i don't really like photos of myself either, and am always critical of my abilities with a camera, but i'm starting to think i should just start taking pictures of things - too much of my life over the last 5-10 years has gone undocumented, and i'm not going to improve if i don't start somewhere...
ReplyDeleteI really love the idea of taking a picture of yourself for 365 days.. Scary.. but I might try to get over my own camera shy-itis. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteDay 2 down, 362 to go.

I think you take lovely self-portraits.
I'd been contemplating this too, and I like the idea of a photo of anything a day as the self portrait a day group scares me, so.
ReplyDeleteYou've inspired me!
Here's mine;

Your thoughts echo mine exactly, compounded by the fact that I have a terribly old digital point and shoot. I think I will follow your example, though, and do the same.

The idea of a self portrait a week scares me though...
i just started a 365 project as well! i have no confidence at all in my abilities, and would never call myself a photographer, but i'm hoping this project will change that.
ReplyDeletei'm looking forward to seeing your photos!
Am I already too behind? I think I'm already too behind, lol. I'm going to vow to take more pictures though. I feel self-conscious about my CAMERA actually, because I don't have a DSLR and all my friends do... I am the only graphic designer with nooo niceee camera :(
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about this so much lately! I absolutely hate pictures of myself and this results in me having very few pictures of myself in my early 20s, which is really sad now, looking back. So my new year's resolution is to actually start documenting myself in my own life, and this post gives me some inspiration to begin. xo.
ReplyDeleteI'm starting my 365 project too! Just because I need a reason to take more pictures, and some discipline as well.
ReplyDeleteI also like Liane's idea of once a week one of the pictures being a self portrait. I take loads of pictures of everybody else, and neglect myself from being "recorded".
My 365 will be here:

Aw guys, I hope I didn't rub it in that I have a fancy-ish camera! I didn't even have a digital camera until maybe four years ago. I think people can do amazing things with whatever camera is available! We always want better than what we already have, I guess. I mean, it would be nice to have a Nikon D80...
ReplyDeletei have also started my 365 - http://www.flickr.com/photos/iamlepetitoiseau/ - i'd love to know what you think! i'm excited and a bit scared too, in case i can't do it!
ReplyDeletethanks for the inspiration - I decided to start my own 365 as well (http://www.flickr.com/photos/iheartmonami/sets/72157623128795170/). I'm no photographer wither but after starting my blog earlier this year I have been really enjoying taking pictures and what better way to document the year.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, I love your portraits (self or otherwise) on fieldguided. You have such a beautiful calmness and ease that I never would have guessed that you didn't like having your photo taken.
happy new year
xo
This is a great idea. I'm excited to follow yours (your photos are great)- please feel free to do the same! (I included one photo from before the new year as filler- I'm on a bus back to New York right now and can't upload my photos from days 1 and 2- but this will be the address...)

wow! good luck with the project! and happy new year to yoU!
ReplyDeletethis might sound weird to you, but I just wanted to say that it felt like I was reading my own thoughts reading this post.
ReplyDeleteWe just got a D-SLR and I am so excited to get out and play. I have taken so many photos of my apartment, but as soon as I get outside I get all weird an embarrassed with the big lens. I am also not sure what my friends would think, should I whip it out at social events.
Anyway, Love this photo.
LOVE frankie album. SO jealous of this shelf. Yay for Australian things ;)

anabela! i will be doing this too! :) i am looking at your pictures now and can't wait to see it grow!
ReplyDeletehave a great day!
such a good idea anabela! as we've talked about before, i'm definitely camera-shy too, but luckily inanimate objects are less particular about how they're photographed (here's hoping). glad my little space is an inspiration for you. wishing you the happiest new year! xo.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a very good plan...
ReplyDeleteIf i had the nerv i would love to start one of my own, or maybe i just have to start and not think to much about it...
By the way all the photo's you have on your blog, and did manage to make are soooo nice..
happy new year, i am excited to follow your photos!
ReplyDeleteLovely idea. Can't wait to see what's in store. Happy New Year!
ReplyDeleteOla Anabela, bom ano novo :)
ReplyDeleteThat's such a great idea. I've also started a new blog this year, I needed it !
Maybe you'll come visit http://soulierdanslaneige.blogspot.com

Sofia
I love this project idea. I look forward to seeing more of it.
ReplyDeleteI've been meaning to do this for years, but you finally convinced me to start yesterday!
ReplyDeleteI'm really not a good photographer (I will improve!), but I love the idea of looking to all the pictures next year.
Here's my Project 365:

I think I'm going to follow some of your 365s as well :)
i always love the pictures you post so i'm very excited that you're doing this!
ReplyDeletei love that there are so many people starting their year off with 365 goals! i just stumbled on your flickr and love both your flickr and blog. now lets hope we can all keep our photographic goals and get a little more adventurous doing so ;] (i know my shyness is why i'm doing a 365...)
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to it; your photos are always so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI'm in the midst of a similar, but slightly different, 365 project. I felt that I was getting a little cynical for my liking, so I decided to think of something every day that makes me happy/thankful, and post it (originally on facebook) with an image to represent it. Most of the photos are mine, but some are logos/public images/others' photos, which is why I'm not doing it on Flickr. I've been batch posting them on my blog (www.owlintherain.blogspot.com). Right now I'm on Day 176. Stop by for a peek, if you like!
OK, I'm totally behind the curve, but I'm doing this too. With my crummy camera.
