I am just bursting. It is so nice to have something to look forward to over the next little while, even if it means that we'll be eating lentils and rice from the bulk food store every day for the next six months.
Chicago & Portland: see you real soon.
Oh and the Joanna Newsom show was pretty good. I don't feel a particular connection to this newest album (not yet, anyhow), and my mind wandered away quite a lot. Still, it was a nice change of pace for a Saturday evening, despite the cold, cold rain.

REPLIES
Katie, thenextarrow: Thank you!
BIG tinsel: Thanks again for the giveaway!
Melinda Josie: Did you see her at the Mod Club? If so, I got teary at that show, too! Despite the annoying thumping coming from downstairs. She forgot lyrics at this show too.
tara-lynn: Well, we've been in touch, but I'm so sorry to have missed you.
Flor M.: Who's lucky? Me? Hehe.
Nightjar Books: I didn't see you! As you know, since it's a few days later, ha.
anneemall: Oh, so many people hate her voice! I never had that experience because I think I read about it first and was expecting it to be much, much worse. I'm pretty fond of her kooky voice.
goldendovedesign: Thank you, it was a good show!
oh i'm so jealous!
ReplyDeletei love chicago, but i've never been to portland.
i've got a few fun places that i love in chicago if you are interested!
Portland is great! So interesting and definitely has its own culture. A lot of that culture is strip clubs, but what are you gonna do? That's just where people go to socialize and drink there, it seems. Union Jack's was a fun one I visited. Off-duty Suicide Girls hang/perform there.
ReplyDeleteI also want to revisit Chicago! Good call on the trips ;)
what fun. i've never been to either. oh, i can't wait to vacation again.
ReplyDeleteand, there are a few varieties of lentils:)
So exciting! Portland is on my travel wishlist too!
ReplyDeleteyay!! can't wait to meet you in "real life"!
ReplyDeletewe are going to see joanna in cambridge, with alice/forstbound. i hope i like it. i loved Ys, especially. i don't know the new one yet.
ReplyDeletevery cool! i check your blog often, I'm not even sure at this point how I came across it but it must have been about 6 or so months ago. I live in Portland, and this is a great time of year to visit! The parks are bustling with people & their dogs enjoying the nicer weather and the colors are so vibrant then! I hope you have a nice stay! We use the Ace hotel a lot at my job for inspiration, so great choice!!
ReplyDeletehuzzah! i stayed at the ace in palm springs with my girlfriends and our dogs when my husband was away one weekend. killer. pics here: http://bigbangstudio.blogspot.com/2010/02/ace-with-dogs.html
ReplyDeleteand so delighted to hear you saw joanna newsom play. i was fascinated by the article on her in the new york times mag last week, and have been listening to "good intentions paving co." on repeat. she reminds me of a kooky, upcountry sprite version of joni mitchell, with more woodland animals and less heartache.
happy lentil-eating, and hurrah for your upcoming trips!
That sounds great! I love both Portland (I also stayed at the Ace) and Chicago (my husband and I got married there). I also have some fun places in both cities if you are interested.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear about your travels, Portland especially. This city has become my home sweet home in no time! If you are into nature, make sure to check out the waterfalls on the Columbia Gorge!!

When you're in Chicago, I suggest the walking tour in Oak Park of the Frank Lloyd Wright homes. On a nice day, this could be a beautiful walk.

ReplyDeleteI hope you have an amazing time! Chicago is definitely my favourite of all the North American cities I've visited, and I've heard lots of great things about Portland. To see it with locals must be wonderful! Of course, please take lots of photographs.
