a new header

I am tempted to make this post nothing but a string of exclamation points. I am so excited to reveal my new blog header! It was done by Caitlin Shearer, who is one of my favourite illustrators. I adore her style and the stories her illustrations tell are so intriguing. She turned 21 last week and has already created a poster for Frankie.

Around the time that I wrote this post, I started to daydream about a commissioned piece, and finally decided to ask. She was so lovely to work with, such a sweetheart, and I am so happy with the result. How could I not be? She turned me into one of her fancy fancy ladies, and surrounded my face with pretty things (including one very special tuxedo kitty). I am over the moon about it. Thank you, Caitlin.

If you want a little Caitlin Shearer magic of your own, she has a shop stocked with prints and originals. I hope to get my mitts on some originals one day.

So now every time you look at my blog you can look at my giant face! But it's okay, it's not really my face. It's BOLD!

chelsea: Ha, I threw the cheesecloth picture in at the last minute thinking no one would care! We diligently bring our reusable bags to the grocery store and yet our purchases are mostly produce in bags! So I really hope that the cheesecloth works out. I will let you know!

kater: I will take that as a big compliment!

jen: Haha, thanks! I will keep you posted. I got the idea from a Japanese book!

Mallory: We're having similar weather! It's so hot. Luckily my ride to work is really easy, just 25 minutes or so along a flat street. I do feel pretty disgusting by the time I get to my destination, though.

Gillian: Thanks, I'm looking forward to trying them out! I'm not sure if they'll get fuzzy -- I don't have too much experience with cheesecloth. But the material is cotton, and cotton doesn't always get as pilly as other material. They'll definitely get dirty easily, but I'll have to take them for a test run.

hibou: Oh, I just looked up Care Bags and they seem to be made of more durable materials! Good to know that there is something out there if the cheesecloth doesn't work.

Every Little Counts: Oh, I recommend them! Yum.

Carly: Yeah, I hope it works out the way I want it to!

Celine: Aw, I'm sure the heat will go away soon. At least I hope so! Poor kitties.

erica-knits: Aw lady, you tryin' to make me cry? That is so nice of you to say. It's crazy to me that this would be your favourite -- or one of your favourite -- blogs! But thank you so much for the enouragement, it means so much. xo

  8. That's a beautiful header/image. Just spent some time fliping through her flickr page - so many lovely portraits! Sidenote: based on your recommendations on this blog I finally stopped by Robber last week. Funny enough, you were working at the time, but I was a little too shy to say hello, ha. Social failures aside, I'm glad I stopped in - lots of nice stuff.
