Our sweet friends Hollie and Jane (of White Elephant) recently created a lookbook for their vintage shop, Ainslie Wood Co., and the results are just so stunning that I wanted to share them here. The photos were taken by Jesse Senko on his family farm.
I particularly love that the inspiration for the title comes from a letter of Emily Dickinson to her brother Austin, from a passage that feels appropriate to read in winter: "there is another sky, ever serene and fair, and there is another sunshine, though it be darkness there; never mind faded forests, Austin, never mind silent fields — here is a little forest, whose leaf is ever green; here is a brighter garden, where not a frost has been."
Full lookbook here, Etsy shop here.
A note on replies: I will no longer be using my former comment-reply system as the blogging platform I use now allows threaded comments. As you can see from my last post, I will now be replying to comments directly. I know that often the only reply I have is "Thank you!" (which I hope never seems trite!) but replying to comments is something I enjoy, and is the best way I know how to thank you for your visit & your comment, should you leave one.

these photos are beautiful -- love the mood & colors. hope you have a good monday!

I'm glad you enjoyed them.
DeleteI want to saute those mushrooms in butter and make a risotto out of it... They're probably poisonous though.
ReplyDeleteThere's probably a good chance, yeah!
DeleteThe lighting in these is breathtaking.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. I love the haziness of them -- really appropriate to the theme!
Deletetotally just got sucked in through the blog wormhole again...so many people living in+around this city that are super-creative! photography is what i really would like to do, full-time, and i'm trying to make that transition now (though i still need the camera+portfolio part, as polaroids only get you so far). i'm glad to see such a locally-supportive community growing...thanks for the head's up! :)
ReplyDeleteNice, good luck with that! I'm glad you got something good out of this post.
Deletethankyou! :) i'm going to contact jesse to see if i can shadow him or something, and see if this is really the thing for me. fingers crossed!
DeleteOh dear, this is lovely. I especially love the black/lace/gold skirt outfit in the last photo :)

Deletethese are sooo beautiful. love the wash on the photos.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!
DeleteI always appreciate that you take the time to reply to comments (in whatever form). I know how time-consuming it can be, because I try to reply to each comment on my blog too. Although I certainly understand why others don't reply - there are hugely popular blogs that get tons of comments, I imagine if the blog author tried to reply to each, they wouldn't have time to actually post anything.
ReplyDeleteThis lookbook is so beautiful! I esepcially like the first image - the whole 'hair being swept by the wind' pose always appeals to me :)
Oh, of course, I definitely understand why others don't. It's just something I like to do... and it just makes replying to direct questions easier. I'm glad you appreciate it, and I like that you reply as well. I always go back to check, although sometimes I forget, haha.
DeleteAgreed! Very Bronte film adaptation-ish!
Eeeek! I'm so glad I started following you yesterday. Your blog makes me feel serene and content. Wonderful selection of images, and your prose is delightful.

ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you enjoyed!
DeleteI would really like to just disappear into that green bike photo and never come out.
ReplyDeleteHope you bring someone with you since it's a tandem bike!
DeleteThat is a hilariously good point.
DeleteI love this! It's rare to find a vintage shop that does a lookbook, since the pieces are in and out quickly. Shows they're one notch above the rest!
ReplyDeleteIt's true. A ten hour photoshoot takes a lot of dedication.
Deletethe shoot was only 10 hours?! They did a lot in that time (I'm serious!)! These look stunning!! Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeletethose pictures are gorgeous.
ReplyDeleteAgreed!

ReplyDeleteI'm your newest follower!
Incredible! I have never seen such beauty and attention to detail going into a vintage shop. The dreamy atmosphere and perfect way the images display the beauty of the pieces is truly awe-inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThis comes at a perfect time for me as well, I've been on the hunt for months to find a perfect 1950s dress to wear to a friend's wedding. This shop may be exactly what I was always looking forward.
Thank you for the directing my attention to it :)
