I let them grow wild for a few months, and it was starting to get a little scary, so booked an appointment at Eye Love after a tweet from Natalie. I am so glad I did. I usually feel a little self-conscious having someone—including beauty professionals—that close to my face, but Mary was a sweetheart who put me right at ease by explaining her methods (she doesn’t follow trends, for one, which is important). She spent quite a long time working her magic, and I was thrilled with the results. Definitely the best $30 I have spent in a while. A whole new face! I believe!
Geoff took this silly picture of me hiding behind some roses and the light is catching one side of my face in an unfortunate way but my eyebrows are perfectly symmetrical, which they definitely were not before. I got a powder palette from Eye Love (made specially for the shop), which is the best brow product I have tried.
Afterwards I met with Bre for coffee (I was feeling pretty high on cool eyebrow vibes) and she was wearing THE BEST coat. Nice coat, Bre.
Eyebrows eyebrows eyebrows! Ugh, yours are so perfect I want to live under a rock!
ReplyDeleteMine aren't symmetrical, but I can't seem to leave them along long enough to let them grow in, and I don't think we have any wonderful brow places around here :(
Aw, lady! You have lovely ones! And if you really need to get them done, you're close enough to NYC, no? Surely there are so many places to chose from there...
DeleteCoat made more awesome by Fieldguided tote hanging from shoulder...
ReplyDeleteIt's not really visible! But YES.
Deletei wish my eyebrows weren't naturally so sparse, although on the flip side, i don't really have to worry about grooming. i love these mini-beauty treatments. sometimes that's all you need to feel a hundred percent better.
ReplyDeleteI agree, it's so nice. It's rare for me to indulge in manicures and pedicures and facials and massages, but they're so enjoyable. Just a little pamperin'!
DeleteI am so grateful that my parents confiscated my tweezers at 13 when I had my first disastrous attempt at plucking my thick eyebrows. My mom found a good brow waxer (hard to find someone who believes you when you say you don't want them thin, just shaped up!)and then paid for me to get them waxed once a month for the remainder of my teenage years, on the condition that I would never tweeze. Smartest parental move ever. I'm sure I would have no shape left if I'd been allowed to go my own way.
ReplyDeleteYours look amazing! Yay for thick brows!
Whoa! Your parents had some foresight! Good for them. I think my parents would have preferred that I let it all hang out in a natural way (they would never have paid for grooming), and were upset with me that I plucked so much. I was worried that mine would never grow back in some places, but between this amazing reshaping and the powder, things are looking pretty healthy. Yay indeed!
DeleteHooray - you have achieved your beautiful brow goals! Wouldn't a brow beauty party be really fun right about now?
ReplyDeleteIt's time for me to go in and have mine done again. I wish they'd last all through my 6 months of European travel & farming, but I suppose that will be the last thing on my mind.
Thank you! Oh yes, seems unlikely! The beauty routine is the first thing to go out the window while away from home.
DeleteHow beautiful! I never had my eyebrows done since they are kind of on the "ok" side and I am wearing bangs but yours tempt me to think it over.
ReplyDeleteAw, if you're happy with them there's no need to change them! Although nothing is forever, and a slight enhancement might make you feel really good.
Deletepretty girl! in high school my mom would knock on the bathroom door and yell "stop!" if i was in there longer than 15 minutes. she knew i was tweezing my brows into oblivion. the WHITE eyeliner i wore only made things worse. 90s!
ReplyDeleteI am wearing white eyeliner in that graduation portrait I mentioned. Your mom was wise! I should have listened to mine.
Deletemm interesting! I may pay a visit. My eyebrows were also over plucked in the 90s and now they are part furry, part sparse.
ReplyDeleteIt's worth it, I think! At least for tips on how to make them look as good as possible.
DeleteYou have beautiful brows! truly. I'd love to get mine shaped and pretty but they're naturally a bit too barely there and thin for my liking, so there's not much room for improvement.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I was pretty skeptical, I have to admit, but then was blown away. I have an arch! Who knew.
DeleteThey look GOOOOD! I wish I had a place to go for my brows. Like you, I have thick black brows that were over tweezed in high school.
ReplyDeleteThank you! We should have a club!
DeleteThanks for the hot tip. Right now, my brows are the definition of "unruly." I think it's high time I looked into getting them properly shaped. Just curious: Does Eye Love wax or thread?
ReplyDeleteSo glad you're interested! I can't recommend her highly enough. She tweezes! She spent nearly one hour with a tweezer. She said that she uses wax if necessary but I guess tweezing gives her better control.
DeleteOooh! Eyebrows eyebrows! I believe I should go find a brow bar.
ReplyDeleteThat is, if I wasnt in a town of about 1600 people. No brow bars here. I must tweeze. :P
Hey, nothing wrong with that! I just never knew what I was doing.
Deletei feel like eyebrows definitely make your face...they look great! i hate when brows are too thin.
ReplyDeleteMe too! I have a large face so too-thin eyebrows look imbalanced, I think.
DeleteAnabela, you have achieved brow perfection. I have no words (other than those).
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteDamn, girl... those are some fine eyebrows. (I realize that was creepy but it was also heartfelt.) I have eyebrow jealousy! Good thing you can't see my awful brows beneath my thick bangs...
ReplyDeleteAw, not creepy at all! Thank you! And for so long I was tempted to go back to bangs to cover up my most unruly brows.
DeleteI too have lived my life with "bushy" eyebrows and remember letting my Mary Kay seller of an aunt teach me to pluck them. I still don't do it often, and have never had them professionally done, but my Nana swears by threading.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I have a few friends who swear by threading too. So many options!
DeleteWow they look awesome! Great post. Love your blog, have featured you here:

Thanks! And thanks so much for including our calendar in your post -- glad you like it.
DeleteThey look very nice and I too have eyebrow envy! I have the opposite problem .. Have never plucked my eyebrows in my life and so wish I had more. So I do use eyebrow products and will seek out this shop to try these that you recommend.
ReplyDeleteLoulou Downtown
Thank you! A little eyeshadow can sometimes help fill in brows pretty nicely -- I think the powder I got is basically an eyeshadow, but I would have chosen the wrong shade on my own. I'd been using a MAC product that was the wrong colour!
DeleteThis is so wonderful! You look stunning.
ReplyDeleteThanks, lady! I'm hiding!
DeleteGah, looking at photos of me in grade 7-9 is so embarrassing because of my THICK, THICK, THICK eyebrows, ha!
ReplyDeleteI will definitely have to check out this place the next time I'm in Toronto! Thanks for the recommendation!
Oh, trust me, the pictures of me from grades 6-8 have some thick eyebrows in them -- hidden behind the dorkiest glasses ever!
DeleteThey look so perfect! I always think I have great eyebrows without ever having done anything to them. It might not be true.
ReplyDeleteThank you! Hey, if they look great to you maybe they are perfect.
DeleteYou look wonderful Anabela - is it possible to have eyebrow envy? This is one of those beauty treatments that I can actually see myself doing. The scary thing is probably growing out your eyebrows beforehand though.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Hila! And yes, I think it is possible to have eyebrow envy because I have had it for years & years. If one has brows like mine, it is a good treatment to choose (plus one of the more affordable ones -- the first treatment is the most expensive & subsequent ones aren't too bad)... I don't go in for many treatments myself but with a well-groomed brow I feel more confident going makeup-free, which is great!
DeleteYour eyebrows look very lovely. I am always unhappy about the shape of mine & I do get a monobrow if they're not tended to often.
ReplyDeleteThank you! And yes, I know all about the monobrow...
Deleteyour brows are beautiful! i'm taking a way more low maintenance approach to mine these days
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! Hey, nothing wrong with that!
DeleteThis is so funny, when I read this yesterday, I had just decided to be brave (exaggerating a lil' here) and let them grow out for once because my shape is honestly horrible. The thing is, every time I had them plucked, they were way overplucked and that's why I'm now stuck with this awful shape. I need to find the Eye Love equivalent of my town, because really, yours are beyond gorgeous! :)
ReplyDelete(and so is your blog, I'm only a recent follower but I'm already an avid reader) - x
Oh, I bet! I was a little worried about the over-pluck. I've also seen some people have their eyebrows shaped with too much wax and they end up looking weirdly geometric? But yeah, I'm so happy with mine!
DeleteThanks for saying hello!
