I like carnations now. This $6 bunch has been going strong for a few weeks, despite a little browning on the tips of the petals.
I have been collecting photo zines here and there, and 28 Pictures by Ye Rin Mok came in the mail last week. Katie posted about it here.
Forever fascinated.
I couldn’t resist the child-like urge to pull this decaying carnation from its receptacle (technical floral term, I think) and was pleased to see that it looked like a tutu.
Not pink, but pretty (and sad) nonetheless.
You're the best.
ReplyDeleteHaha, THANKS!
DeleteBeautiful, you have a wonderful eye for photography :)
ReplyDeleteI've loved Ye Rin Mok for so long now, keep coming back!
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty new to her work, but I just love it. A well-spent $12, I say.
Deletebeautiful flower photos!
ReplyDeleteI love your flower pictures!
ReplyDeleteSo, so beautiful. I absolutely love Ye Rin Mok's work. I've never really paid much attention to carnations, but these pale pink ones are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThis post is a breath of fresh air, as always!
Thank you! Yes, I still don't really like the red ones, but I'm just not a fan of red flowers in general. I always try to find the palest pink carnations I can.
DeleteSo beautiful!
ReplyDeleteit DOES look like a tutu!
ReplyDeleteMan, has anyone ever told you that your blog is like a little slice of heaven? I constantly get lost in it. Beautiful!
Aw, so sweet of you to say, thank you!
DeleteSuch pretty pink stuff. I love the pastels flowers, & I am throughly intrigued about how you manage to keep flowers alive that long. Also I've been meaning to ask, what do you photograph your stuff on? Love the white surface.
ReplyDeleteOh, they don't always last that long. The roses in these pictures only lasted a few days. I just change the water frequently. The white surface is just my dining room table.
DeleteThese are really beautiful. I so adore the pink carnations!

In my head whenever I see a pale dusty rose kind of pink or a light light light mint green my brain calls them Anabela colors!
ReplyDeleteI've always had a bit of a soft spot for carnations. Alone they're not outstanding, but in huge bunches they're delicious.
Well, I love that! I went through a period of hating pink but it looks like I've come back around to my childhood pink bedroom and pink everything, really.
Deleteso lovely. thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteI have also grown to love carnations now as I think they are the flower for Capricorns. I'm a big Blonde Readhead fan <3 this album makes me think of taking the bus everywhere in Seattle and wearing my lost favorite jean jacket...every day.
ReplyDeleteI think I had forgotten they were the Capricorn flower! Maybe that's why I love them. That album is so, so good. I know a lot of people didn't like it but I still think the title song is MAJESTIC.
Deletecarnations are the best for that! and that pink is the perfect spring colour, i think.
ReplyDeleteI think so too.
DeleteDespite my shop name, I like carnations as well. Love the pink, thanks for that : )
ReplyDeleteHa! When your comment came up and I saw your username I thought it was a protest.
DeleteI think this is one of the first times I've seen a photo of carnations and thought they looked lovely! Perhaps it's because they're not paired with baby's breath... the quintessential cheap bouquet combination. More likely, it's your awesome photography.
ReplyDeleteThank you! I don't mind baby's breath on its own but I know what you mean... they look so instantly dated together.
DeleteLovely! I think carnations have such a pretty smell. I don't care if they're cheap. They make me happy. :)
ReplyDeleteI like them more because they're cheap, haha.
DeleteI like the carnations in pink! I think it suits them more than red. I'm curious to know what those pink boards are meant for...
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what they're for... I walked past them last week. They're probably part of a condo showroom, depressingly.
DeleteYou make everything beautiful, A!
ReplyDeleteI love how tutu-like flowers look - it's partly why the Nutcracker sequence in Fantasia was my favourite.
ReplyDeleteIf you can believe it, I have never seen Fantasia, ha!
DeleteThese are gorgeous. Really beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteWow, these are just stunning photographs. You can make the simplest little things look so intricate and beautiful! x

Carnations are definitely my favourite flowers, such amazing photos!
ReplyDeleteLovely - I adore supermarket conversations!
ReplyDeleteI just wish I had bought the roses at our beloved flower market. These ones were AWFUL and so expensive!
DeleteI love it, too!
ReplyDeleteoh so pretty.
ReplyDeletei also love pink carnations. although my friends make fun of me a bit, saying that they're "funeral flowers", especially in the Portuguese culture (of which I'm a part of). Hm... either way, i love that they last and last and don't need much, but give so much back. they're like super flowers.
ReplyDeleteOh, I didn't know that they were funeral flowers! Oh well, doesn't bother me.
DeleteI've got pink on the brain, too. It started with my Fieldguided tote and has spiraled out of control from there. It's such a lovely colour. I love your rose shots and carnations are growing on me. They've always been my Dad's favorite flower. Pre-me he was an award winning gardener, so I guess he knows a thing or two about flowers. That fin sign makes me so sad, I loved their shoes.
ReplyDeleteWow, can your dad come and fix up my disaster of a backyard? Haha! That's pretty cool!
DeleteEadaoin, Meg, kaarlijnx-x, Inês Batista, Joana, mackenzie, * HOPSCOTCH * ~ Charlyn, Megan, Kate, curious constellation, Irene, caroline: Thank you all very much! x
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos (as always)! I had an identical bunch of carnations a few weeks back. Even just carrying that poufy pink bunch around Loblaws while I grocery shopped lifted my spirits. They are the perfect lightly frivolous treat.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Carly! I agree completely.
Deletethis represents pink at it's finest. it's like, "thank god someone finally understands me."
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks for that. So glad you like the photos.
DeleteCarnations are my favorite flowers, so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThose carnations are beautiful! I love having bunches of fresh flowers around the house - my local market always has a really nice selection!
ReplyDeleteI love your flower pictures! so pretty!
